There is an agreement from the province of Nova to bring Treaty Education to all schools in the province. In this video students document a week of special activities taking place in the school for Treaty Day. Treaty Day honours the nation-to-nation relationship formed between Indigenous nations and the Canadian government, as enshrined in historic treaties. Teachers and visiting Elders teach the students traditional knowledge including making eel spears, skinning eels and basket making. The entire school takes part in the annual Orange Shirt Day which honours residential school survivors. Through spoken word, drawing and interviews, What’s with That Treaty asks the question what is Treaty Education, explores the impact of residential school on students today and how Treaty Education ensures the culture that was lost has a resurgence.
