While working on Stories of Mistassini, Janine takes collaborating filmmaker Ann Verrall to visit her father and her ancestors. As an artist, Janine looks to the wisdom of her elders, the people and the land for inspiration on forming her identity.

Stories of Mistassini: stories from the big rock is a collection of short videos featuring the land of La Ronge Saskatchewan created with the students of Sentator Myles Venne School (SMVS), community members and elders of the Lac La Ronge area. Production mentorship by Ann Verrall and Janine Windolph. Performance mentorship by Michele Sereda. Project support by Trudy Stewart. Post Production by Ann Verrall.

This documentary features fiddle player Tristen Durocher, a La Ronge resident who hails from Buffalo Narrows. This young man creates music used in the soundtracks for some of the videos in this project. He shares his passion for fiddles, Metis Traditional music, and landscape photography

Angel Keller, a local who made La Ronge her home since she was a child, reflects on her father’s life as a prospector, the connection she feels to the land and her relationship to the rocks.

Henry Roberts invites Janine, Ann and Michele over for tea and to share his memories and stories from his life on the land while reflecting on his knowledge and sharing his culture.
