For the past two years the Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace has been an organizer of Peace Walks. In 2025 the Peace Walk was to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings and went from the historical town of Pugwash ‘World famous for Peace’ to Truro, – 80 km for 80 years. With a focus on engagement with children and youth, it began with a one-day Science of Peace & Disarmament Youth Conference followed by visits to elementary schools and a youth group along the way. Traveling on the walk was an inspirational letter to the Peace Walkers from Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of Hiroshima. Later, some of the walkers visited Setsuko at her home in Toronto. Setsuko’s story weaves through the Peace Walk, with reflections from a school principal, the peace walkers from India and Japan who joined us and experiencing a Peace Puzzle created by youth group Black Girl Magic in Truro. Walking with Setsuko brings a message of hope and a call to action.
